An Ancient Magnet for Intention

Prayer beads have been used throughout time to help the mind stay focused without wandering. Bringing attention into a sharp focus, they serve as a universal anchor across faiths and traditions around the world.

Mala & Japa

In the Buddhist and Hindu traditions, prayer beads are known as a mala, and the meditative repetition of a mantra is called japa. Malas traditionally feature 108 beads plus a distinct center "Guru bead" which marks the boundary of each completed round.

The Sacred Facets: Rudraksha beads are deeply revered in India for japa. Featuring five distinct facets, they are directly associated with the five aspects of Shiva: creation, maintenance, dissolution, concealment, and grace.

The Misbaha

In Islamic tradition, prayer beads are known as the misbaha (or subha, tesbih, and tasbih). They are utilized for dhikr—the intentional recitation of praises to Allah.

Sacred Proportions: These traditional strings typically feature counts of 11, 33, or 99 beads. Turn Beads honors this lineage by allowing you to instantly set your digital round to these specific sacred numbers.

The Rosary

In the Western Christian tradition, the Rosary serves as both a physical chaplet and a structural sequence of contemplative prayer. Practitioners move through the beads to anchor their focus while meditating on sacred mysteries.

Rhythmic Decades: A standard Dominican Rosary is beautifully structured around a total count of 59 beads, primarily arranged into five groups of ten (decades). Turn Beads accommodates this classic configuration perfectly.

The Chotki

Eastern Orthodoxy utilizes a sacred prayer rope known as a chotki. Woven traditionally from wool, it is used as a spiritual tool to combat temptations, quiet internal chatter, and achieve a state of unceasing prayer. Common counts are 33, 50, or 100 knots.

Symbolic Geometry: Turn Beads honors this count, allowing you to select the traditional material of your bead alongside these sacred counts to seamlessly fulfill your daily spiritual practice.
